Why RAM?  "After attending my first RAM clinic in Emporia, Virginia last June, I left feeling inspired by the patients, RAM volunteers, and dire need for medical care I witnessed. Seeing the direct effects of inaccessible healthcare on a person’s quality of life has been an experience that continues to motivate me as I strive for a career in medicine. I want to ensure that as many people as possible have access to medical services, despite being remotely removed from such resources or the inability to pay for the cost. The opportunity to work towards this goal through our UVA RAM Campus Chapter is incredibly exciting to me. I hope that through increasing awareness of RAM's mission, we can help to mitigate the need for quality healthcare, both locally and nationally."

Why RAM?  "I chose to be involved with RAM after attending my first clinic in Emporia, Virginia this past summer. It was truly an eye-opening experience as I began to realize how many people live without proper healthcare. Remote Area Medical is a wonderful organization that helps thousands of individuals a year, and I'm excited to bring it to grounds! I look forward to supporting their mission while meeting fellow RAM volunteers across the United States!"

Sydney Williams
Vice-President

Sydney is a third year Cognitive Science major with a concentration in Neuroscience. She is a Scribe for UVA Health's Emergency Department and a Research Assistant for Dr. Guler's Neuroscience Lab. Her involvement on Grounds extends to being a member of the Sigma Sigma Sigma sorority and Fundraising Chair of the Virginia Women's chorus. In her free time, she loves to sing, read (Red Rising is her favorite book!), and travel with family and friends. A fun fact about Sydney is that her biggest accomplishment is watching her favorite TV show, Friends, almost 7 times!

Meesha Vullikanti

Meesha is a second year majoring in Computer Science. On Grounds, she is the Officer of Workshops Committee for the Undergraduate Research Network, conducts undergraduate research, and is an EMT at the Charlottesville-Albermarle Rescue Squad. She has many hobbies including reading, embroidery, painting, and playing viola!

Why RAM?  "Healthcare disparities in the US are far more common than we realize, and we spend a lot of time funding and providing support to clinics and medical care internationally without really thinking about how some of our own citizens are unable to access basic healthcare and medical services. RAM supports communities on a more local level, which is something many medical service organizations don't prioritize. We can't begin to fix the inequities in healthcare unless we address them in our own backyard."

Why RAM?  "I felt called to be involved with RAM at UVA in order to give back to the community which has given me so much. I have seen the imperfections in the health care system and feel a responsibility to work to fix it."

Katherine Ladocsi

Katherine is a second year pursuing a Biology major on the pre-med track. In addition to RAM, she is a Sigma Sigma Sigma sorority member and is involved with the Virginia Riding Team. In her free time, she enjoys horseback riding and photography. A fun fact about Katherine is that her favorite animal is a hippo!

Shaalini's favorite pastimes are choreographing dances, napping, scrolling through Friends memes, and hanging out with friends. A fun fact about Shaalini is that she had the spelling of her name legally changed when she was 3!

Why RAM?
"
When I first heard about RAM, I was extremely impressed by the level of impact their mobile clinics have in various communities across the country, and I knew I wanted to be a part of this amazing initiative. As a pre-health student, Global Public Health major, and service-driven individual, I am passionate about ensuring that everyone has access to the quality healthcare they deserve. Through RAM, I will get the opportunity to play a humble role in providing this service to those in need."

Why RAM? "I’ve been going to RAM clinics for a few years now. I love being able to see what a difference each clinic can make in their communities. Each time, I’m blown away by how many people are able to be helped and get the healthcare they need. RAM is such an incredible organization and I am so excited to be able to help bring RAM to Charlottesville and UVA to get more people helping with their mission!"

RAM at UVA felt like the perfect way to continue my passion for serving and helping better the community as a whole. In addition, I wanted to find other people who shared the common goal of working to put an end to disparities in healthcare."
Picture
Why RAM?  "With a passion for serving vulnerable populations and aspirations to work in the medical field, RAM offers the perfect opportunity to serve others while learning more about the healthcare challenges that we face. I hope to make a positive impact, however small, on the Charlottesville community that has become my home."
